Title Coping strategies of families with mentally retarded children

Abstract

An aim of the study is to evaluate the type and amount of coping strategies, which are used by parents in the process of care of their mentally retarded children. The inventory on Family Coping Strategies (F-COPES) is presented, and use for the aim of the study. The results show that most used strategies by parents are reframe and acquiring social support. F-COPES may be used for research purposes and in a practice, involved in evaluative interviews with parents of mentally retarded children for development and structuring of interventions.
