Abstract |
The article treats the problems of the belt buckles, called
"pafti". The belt buckles - pafti were the center of the national
costume and the whole finery of the Bulgarian woman. The constant
recurrence of the three major types of belt buckles (round, oblong
and Indian palmette-shaped) as combined with the rapid increase in
the number of belt buckles made during the Bulgarian National
Revival period (18 - 19 century) greatly enriched the interrelation
between form and content and gave life to many fresh and unexpected
artistic ideas. The author publishes 14 new types of pafti.
