Abstract |
According to researchers, modernism starts with rebellion and
ends in despair. In the Christian paradigm events in life between
the two end points exhaust the elementarized regularity of
apostasy. And there is more to it. When we turn our back on God we
also "turn our back" on mankind. In its duration modernism has to
do with communities - on going out of the cafe it makes its way
through the street crowd and is contained in the discomfort of its
loneliness to become an "intellectual" pursuit. The intellectual is
not a conversationalist (for him the act of speaking is the
solution to a personal existential crisis rather than participation
in the "acts of God"), while the modernistic prophet resorts to
speaking in symbols - for him this is the compromise of
communication. In modernism you should stand up for monologue. If
you stop speaking a new voice will emerge from the background which
will not be yours. This voice will exhilarate and exult. The (time)
advantage gives the "right" to pronounce the "invisible" in the
respective - symbolic - language. "Symbolic forms" of modern speech
are a result of the emotional energetic "uplifting"of subconscious
life experiences in an area our conscience illuminates (inasmuch as
in modernism God has already hidden himself in the blank spaces of
psychological cartography). In his behaviour he is a "masked"
sociality - because he is supposed to serve society's appeal for
the renewal of the universal realm and the culture it contains, and
his syllogistic method consists in the opposition of pairs or
foursomes. Because of its psychological origin the mask has a
sexual character and could be reduced to a communication crisis
between the persona, seeking self-fulfilment, and the community,
which requires that the sacramental process of veneration be
reduced to acceptable social behaviour. To ensure that the
behaviour is "acceptable" and "socializing" it needs to give up
once and for all a pronounceable truth and bear the burden of being
liable to permanent interpretation. Thus the symbol dies "encoded"
and Enigma, its deciphering machine, has been sold as scrap iron…
That is why, freed from its psychological attributes, the
identification of the personality is possible only in denotation
and in speaking (indirect speech) and the staging of productions.
