Abstract |
In the context of expressionism the title of this report sounds
tautological. It's only natural for the expression to be
quintessential to this school, as its derivation suggests. But the
purpose of these theatrical practices boils down to the intentional
attempt to find a definitive artistic expression of the
metaphysical essence. The historical moment is sketched only
perfunctorily. However, since the Age of expressionism is a time of
change of the social status of art in general, the socio-cultural
moment cannot be avoided. This report is an attempt to outline in
brief the specific ideo-aesthetic and philosophical moments in this
phenomenon and to trace some of the principles of putting into
practice of one of the main claims of theatrical expressionism:
finding an adequate physical and verbal expression of the movements
of the Soul (in the sense in which the Soul is perceived by the
followers of this school) The introduction constitutes an attempt
to give a general idea of the historical, social and aesthetic
conditions that have led to the formation of this school. It also
outlines the boundaries of expressionism, the latter being defined
in this report as the idea of expressionism. The three main
conclusions deal with the methodology of the expressionistic act.
The second part gives an account of how these principles are
applied in dramaturgy and in theatre and emphasizes the means of
expression that guarantee the authenticity of the "Protocols of the
soul" The shorter third part deals with the crisis in the
expressionistic idea. Here are some of the main reasons for the
quick exhaustion and the de facto disappearance of this phenomenon
are briefly analysed. The emphasis is on those specific moments
that doomed expressionism to failure from its very inception. Key
words: theatre- expressionism ,protocols of the Soul- metaphysics-
new means of expression. Trend: Art and Culture, Section- "The Road
to Europe".
